Govt will check migration: Harish
Hyderabad : Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Sunday urged people to make ‘Mission Kakatiya’ a grand success and help provide timely irrigation to farmers. He was speaking at a meeting organised by the Telangana JAC on ‘Lakes restoration and irrigation facilities’ here.Harish Rao said that migration of poor farmers and labour from rural areas could be stopped upon completion of lake restoration works. “We can also prevent suicides by farmers. Let us together complete these projects and help farmers increase foodgrain production,” he observed.
Mentioning that lake restoration works should be executed in a transparent manner, Harish Rao admonished officials concerned for improper maintenance of records. He criticised previous governments for failing to protect irrigation projects in Telangana region for the past 14 years.
He attributed the pathetic conditions of various projects to negligence and dereliction of duties by the previous governments. “Now, the TRS government will complete the projects in time to ensure timely supply of water to crops,” he asserted.
