Mission Kakatiya made graft-free
Hyderabad : With a view to preventing any possible frauds in the implementation of Mission Kakatiya works by contractors, the Telangana government on Friday directed the Irrigation department officials dealing with the project not to award more than five tank renovations works worth more than Rs 2 crore to any contractor. The decision was taken to prevent issues like one contractor securing more number of works and failing to execute them on time. Apparently, the government wants to ensure that the greediness of contractors does hamper the works of Mission Kakatiya.
It has issued comprehensive guidelines, through an order, to carry out Mission Kakatiya project in a fair manner, taken up with an estimated cost of Rs 25,000 crores to repair the 46,000 tanks in the State in five years.
The order stated that tanks which have not been covered under the programmes like State plan, RRR, CBTMP should be given priority under Mission Kakatiya. Preference should be given to tanks having dependable flows and relatively larger ayacut.
It said that priority should be given to the tanks where farmers agree to transport the silt to the farm lands at their own cost. The chain of tanks in the mandal should be identified in the first phase. Cost estimates for each individual tank in the chain including repairs of its feeder channel should be prepared. The continuation of chain into the next mandal should be identified at division /sub–division level.
