9,000 NGOs licences cancelled
The NDA government has scrapped the licences of 9,000 NGOs which have failed to file the annual returns for the year 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12.The Union Home Ministry had served notices to over 10, 344 NGOs in October 2014 and sought a reply within a month specifying the foreign funds received,
sources of funds and manner in which the funds were utilized.However, only 229 NGOs replied to the notice served by the ministry.Recently, the government ordered that funds coming from Ford Foundation should not be released to any bank or NGO without mandatory permission from the Home Ministry.
