Consumer spending may touch $ 4.2 trn by 2017
NEW DELHI : With increasing brand awareness amongst the Indian youth and purchasing power of the upper class in tier II and III cities, Indian consumer spending is expected to grow four times to $4.2 trillion by 2017, according to Assocham-Yes Bank joint report released here on Wednesday. Indian luxury market is estimated to be worth $18 billion by 2017 from the current level of $14 billion with unprecedented growth in luxury categories including fashion, automobiles and fine dining.
Globally too, consumer spending is on a rise, expected to reach $40 trillion by 2020 with an unprecedented growth of $12 trillion in a decade, says the report. Indians consumer spending is expected to grow four times to $4.2 trillion by 2017, driven by increasing income and aspirations. Indian Luxury market is poised to expand three fold in next three years and the number of millionaires expected to multiply three times in another five years, said D S Rawat, secretary general, Assocham.

Hyderabad : Telangana Congress leaders opposed the government’s proposed move to shift Chest Hospital, Erragadda to Vikarabad of Ranga Reddy district from Hyderabad and called it inhuman and thoughtless act. TPCC vice-president Mohammed Ali Shabbir and former MP M Ravi said that the decision was arbitrary and demanded to withdraw it immediately.Addressing the press, Shabbir Ali said that the decision was autocratic and inhuman.
He added Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was acting like a monarch. Saying the decision will hurt thousands of patients and employees, Ali added the 670-bed hospital gets nearly 200 patients suffering from breathing or respiratory problems and an equal number of HIV patients with TB co-infection on daily basis. It also houses a 100-bedded facility for HIV patients, which is one of its kind in India, Ali said.
Mukesh Goud to join TDP
The stage has been set for the entry of former minister and senior Congress leader M Mukesh Goud into Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He is likely to be fielded from Sanathnagar Assembly constituency as the party candidate. This was revealed by T Devender Goud, Mukesh Goud’s uncle, who is a Rajya Sabha MP. Goud said that Mukesh would formally join the party soon.
‘Complete Metro project in time’
Hyderabad : Commercial Taxes Minister T Srinivas Yadav asked the Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities to complete the works as per schedule without causing inconvenience to people. The minister along with the Hyderabad Metro Rail MD N V S Reddy, GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar inspected the metro rail works between Ameerpet and Greenlands stretch on Wednesday. The minister said that it was a dream project of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and the officials should ensure the works are completed well within time.
When the people in the locality stating that they were facing a lot of inconvenience because of the works, the minister said that the government was taking up the metro rail project as a prestige issue and the people should also support. “Once the 72-km metro comes into existence there will not be any traffic problems and the Chief Minister has also assured to take the metro to city outskirts,” said Yadav.
Swine flu medicines in all hospitals
Hyderabad : Trying to allay fears among people on growing number of Swine flu deaths, NIMS Director Dr Narendranath on Tuesday asked the public to avoid panic and visit the hospitals to check the problem besides being clean and maintaining hygiene. Speaking to media in the Secretariat he said that people should avoid the spread or attraction of the virus by keeping a handkerchief or a towel across mouth while coughing and sneezing.
As per the norms of World Health Organisation (WHO), government hospitals are cautious in implementing the stipulated norms to deal with swine flu cases, said Nims director, adding there was no shortage of medicines at the hospitals and people can go and check the problem. Speaking about the growing number of deaths due to Swine flu he said that till Tuesday, it was put at 16 while it was 13 on Monday.
Out of 106 samples, 46 tested positive for swine flu. He also said that they have distributed adequate number of medicines to all government hospitals and some chosen private hospitals in the State and urged people to contact when they feel affected by symptoms of Swine flu and take prior steps in advance to overcome the problem, he said.
South Central Railway running four special trains for Kakinada
Hyderabad: South Central Railway would be running four special trains with 15 coaches between Hyderabad- Kakinada Town-Secunderabad and vice versa from January 29 to February 1, in order to facilitate the passengers.
Accordingly, Train No. 07427 Hyderabad-Kakinada Town would depart from Hyderabad at 10.50 pm on January 29 and arrive at Kakinada at 9.15 am, the next day. In the return direction, Train No. 07428 Kakinada Town-Secunderabad special train will depart from Kakinada Town at 6.30 pm on January 30 and would arrive at Secunderabad at 4.15 am, the next day.
On January 31, Train No.07427 Secunderabad - Kakinada Town special train will depart from Secunderabad at 11.30 pm and would arrive at Kakinada Town at 9.15 am, the next day. While, Train No. 07428 Kakinada Town – Hyderabad Special train will depart from Kakinada Town at 6.30 pm on February1 and would arrive Hyderabad at 4.55 am.
7 Persons killed in Mahabubnagar road mishap
Hyderabad: Seven persons were killed on spot and four other were injured grievously, when two collided on the NH 44 at Kommireddipall under Addakula mandal in Mahabubnagar district on Tuesday. The incident occurred when Tavera (a four-wheeler) was on its way from Kurnool towards Hyderabad hit the road divider and rammed into the other vehicle (Innova) coming from opposite direction.
“Six of the total seven killed was identified as a natives Maharashtra who were travelling in Tavera and the remaining one hails from Kerala who was travelling in Innova along with four others who escape with injuries and were shifted to nearby hospital,” informed the Wanaparthy DSP Jogula Chennaiah.
RBI cancels licence of co-op bank
KANPUR: The Reserve Bank of India has cancelled the licence of United Commercial Co-operative Bank, Kanpur to carry on banking business. As per the orders, the bank cannot operate any banking business transactions including acceptance or repayment of deposits. The licence was cancelled under Section 22 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 (as applicable to Co-operative Societies).

Pune: Iconic cartoonist R K Laxman passed away at a hospital here on Monday evening after a prolonged illness. He was 94. Laxman, the creator of ubiquitous mute spectator 'Common Man', was admitted to the hospital on January 17 for urinary infection. He is survived by wife Kamala and son Srinivas, a former journalist. Laxman who irked politicians exposing their hypocrisy through his cartoons had a huge fan following from various corners.
Rajaiah is scapegoat for govt failure: Congress
Hyderabad : Telangana Congress leaders on Monday came down heavily on Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for the dismissal of T Rajaiah from the cabinet and said that he was made a scapegoat. Addressing the press, party leaders Shabbir Ali, Madhu Yashki and D Nagendar condemned the removal of Rajaiah from the cabinet and termed it as an arbitrary move. Former MP Madhu Yashki alleged the Kakatiya Mission had been turned into Kalvakuntla (the CM’s surname) Mission.
HMDA to start avenue plantation in July
Hyderabad : The State government has given the job of avenue plantation under the prestigious “Telanganaku Haritha Haram” for the city roads to Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). The authority would plant over a seven lakh saplings on the city roads for this financial year. It has classified around 30 varieties of flowering species and 25 suitable non-flowering species for the event.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had instructed the authority for a schematic plantation with large number of flower bearing plants to enhance the beauty of roads in the city. HMDA Urban Forestry Director V Krishna said that they are in process to prepare the detail action plan to classify suitable saplings, manpower and budget estimates. He said that they have identified 25 nurseries for this purpose.
“The avenue plantation would be started from July with the commencement of the rainy season,” he said. He further informed that the authority is in process to identify more nurseries as they have to plant more than two crores of plants, “We are identifying nurseries in Medak and Rangareddy mandals,” he said. More plantations have to done in barren hill areas, river, canal and rivulets bank areas and urban residential colonies in HMDA jurisdiction.
Public participation for saving water bodies
Hyderabad : Scientists, environmental activists and students presented their ideas on ways to conserve the water bodies in the country at the national seminar that concluded at St Pious Women's College here on Sunday. They were unanimous in observing that community participation is essential in saving the wetlands, lakes and rivers from extinction and in reviving the dying ones. Speaking at the valedictory of the seminar, which was titled 'Conservation of Water Bodies', eminent environmentalist K Purushottam Reddy appreciated the Telangana government's 'Mission Kakatiya' programme.
"The revivals of lakes and tanks in the State will help meet the drinking and irrigation needs of lakhs of people,” he said. The green activist appealed to the State government to ensure that the industries which release their effluents into lakes and rivers pay for the pollution they are causing. "The 'polluter pays' principle has been long established by the Supreme Court.

Hyderabad : Even as a bitter cold war is brewing between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on various contentious issues including the conduct of EAMCET and sharing of Krishna waters, Governor E S L Narasimhan on Monday once again took the initiative to sort out the differences by holding a meeting with the Chief Ministers of both the States. The Governor is learnt to have mooted a proposal that Telangana and Andhra Pradesh hold the entrance exam every alternate year for the benefit of the students of both the States.

565 new vehicles for State police
Hyderabad : Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy on Sunday flagged off the new fleet of police vehicles that were sanctioned to the 600 police stations of Telangana by the State government. The minister said that it was for the first time in India, that a State government had taken initiatives to develop friendly policing and provide several facilities to the Police Department.He said that the ‘Hawk Eye’ application launched by the city police was very useful for the public and they would like to extend the services of the application across the State.
During the occasion at People’s Plaza, he said that the government had sanctioned Rs 93.51 crore to the department to improvise the tools used to curb cybercrime and law and order. About Rs 69.59 crore was sanctioned to upgrade all the police stations and install CCTVs in the city. The minister said that the new fleet consisting of 565 vehicles include 290 Boleros, 260 Sumos would be distributed among all the police stations and the 15 Innovas would be given to the newly formed ‘Warangal police commissionerate’.
‘Media must partner in development’
Hyderabad : Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday called upon the media organisations of the State to don the role of an advisor and catalyst for development in the newly formed state and stop indulging in sensationalism. He said that there was a need for media to play a proactive role in realising the Golden Telangana state while adding that there was hardly any scope for resorting to yellow journalism.
“I am humbly appealing all media organisations not to indulge in sensationalism. It does not serve any purpose. As ours is a new state, there is a need for all media organisations to publish stories and articles related to all fields of the State to realise the dream of Bangaru Telangana. I want you to write about the challenges faced by the State in sectors like agriculture, irrigation and other sectors for the development of the state, available resources, issues which need to be focused for the state’s development.
